Fire on the landscape is a land management process that affects every aspect of the environment. It is equally as important as precipitation, sunlight, and soil. Currently at OSU, there are many studies pertaining to the interactions between fire, fauna, and flora. There are many benefits associated with the use of fire some of them being: increased livestock gains, biodiversity, heterogeneity, removal of excess fuels, reduced parasites, and so on. As producers/land managers begin to realize the effects fire has on the landscape, they will alter their management plans to more easily achieve their goals and objectives. This video is a compilation of recorded go-pro footage from the NREM- Advanced Prescribed Fire class. In this class, our students develop burn plans, discusses problem areas (densely populated areas), and participate in prescribed burns. In doing this the students gain experience, confidence, and and critical thinking skills that are all needed when conducting a prescribed burn. I hope you enjoy the video.
