Amy and Malone Mitchell met during their first semester at OSU. They got married at the end of their sophomore year. They started their first business before they ever left OSU. Using $500 and the spare bedroom in their house, Amy and Malone started up one of the largest privately held energy companies, Riata Energy. The Mitchells sold controlling interest in Riata (now Sandridge Energy) but donated one million shares of their SandRidge Energy stock to the Spears School of Business. The Riata Center for Entrepreneurship is named in honor of their contribution. In 2013, the Mitchells were inducted into the OSU Alumni Hall of Fame.
