In spring 2017, the Oklahoma State University Student Government Association passed a resolution that October 9th would be recognized at Indigenous Peoples' Day on OSU's Campus.
The Native American Student Association, with support from Arts and Sciences Student Council, American Indian Studies, the Center for Sovereign Nations, Office of Multicultural Affairs, Dr. Lee Bird, Student Affairs and the Student Government Association, Celebrated the occasion by recreating the largest tribal jurisdiction state of Oklahoma map right on the lawn of Life Sciences East, on the Oklahoma State University Campus.
The recreation illustrated that Oklahoma is home to 38 tribal nations.
